Northern Lights

There’s no light show in the world quite like it. And there’s no need to travel to Iceland or Norway to see the northern lights – the aurora borealis. In fact, there is no better place in Ireland to view the northern lights than the northern coast of Inishowen.

The northern lights is a natural light display in the sky, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere… when the sun is more active and causes geomagnetic storms to bombard the earth, the displays are most spectacular.

Local photographers are often out in force when the northern lights are at their best, mostly during the winter and after dark, so wrap up warm!
